Reblocking / Restumping
We remove plinth boards and carefully position heavy-duty jacks around the home to safely lift and support the structure before work begins.
Holes are excavated to required specifications (commonly 300x300x300mm to approximately 450mm depth). We remove old timber stumps and inspect bearers and joists, replacing any rotten or damaged structural components.
New concrete stumps are positioned and secured to bearers and beams, leaving 15–20cm clearance for concrete placement. We then level the entire home using 100% laser levelling technology to ensure precise alignment.
A building inspection is arranged to ensure compliance with regulations. Once approved, we use a concrete pump to pour and secure the stumps, providing strong foundation support.
After 24–48 hours of curing, we remove the jacks, re-level the soil under the house, and complete a full clean-up—ensuring quality workmanship and customer satisfaction.
Reblocking and restumping are often used interchangeably to describe the process of replacing old or rotten timber stumps with new ones (usually concrete or steel) to level uneven floors, which could otherwise cause some cracks to close or open further, as well as other structural issues.
You may need restumping if your home has uneven or sloping floors, cracked walls or ceilings, sticking doors and windows that don’t close properly, wardrobes that don’t close, or cracked tiles. Excess moisture or deteriorating timber stumps under older homes in Melbourne are also warning signs. A professional inspection can confirm if restumping a house is required.
Yes, you can often live in your home during restumping, depending on the project scope and structural condition. However, expect noise, vibrations, and temporary lifting while new stumps are installed.
For house restumping projects that have no access from the outside, we need to do the work by removing the floorboards. In such cases, temporary relocation may be recommended for safety and convenience.
Most homes need restumping every 40-60 years, depending on soil conditions, drainage, and stump materials. A professional assessment determines if restumping a house is necessary to maintain structural stability.
Yes, council approval is generally required to restump a house as it involves structural building work.
